School Curriculum Program
What is the School Curriculum Program?
The School Curriculum Program is designed by Rugby Nova Scotia to support physical education teachers in bringing T1 Rugby into their classrooms. Our curriculum guide breaks down skills and lesson planning by grade level, giving you everything you need to run a fun, safe, and successful rugby unit.
What is T1 Rugby? T1 Rugby is a non-contact version of rugby designed for all skill levels. It keeps the speed, strategy, and teamwork of the traditional game while removing tackling, making it safe and easy to learn in a school setting. Students focus on passing, movement, and game awareness, building confidence while having fun.
How the Program Works
Once your school expresses interest in the program, here’s what to expect:
- Schedule your in-class facilitation dates with Rugby Nova Scotia staff.
- Review the curriculum guide and lesson plans in advance (these will be provided before your first session).
- Co-facilitate with Rugby Nova Scotia staff as we guide students through skills and games.
- Observe and practice teaching the lessons with our support.
- Lead your own lesson once you feel confident, with Rugby Nova Scotia staff on hand for assistance.
- Receive feedback and ask questions. Additional facilitation dates may be arranged to ensure you’re comfortable delivering rugby on your own.
- Ongoing support from Rugby Nova Scotia, including:
- Continued open communication
- Equipment Rental Program
- Professional Development (PD) sessions
- Access to the full Curriculum Guide Document
Equipment Rental Program
To ensure all schools have equal access and to remove barriers to introducing rugby, Rugby Nova Scotia offers an Equipment Rental Program.
