About Youth Rugby
Rugby Nova Scotia is dedicated to the growth and development of our sport in this province. We work hard to create opportunities for children to play rugby year round, with the intentions of full inclusivity for everyone who wishes to participate.

RNS Provincial Academies
We provide Flag Rugby programming based in HRM during the summer and the off-season (November-May) for athletes aged 5-17. All Rugby Nova Scotia youth programming is designed for athletes with limited to no rugby experience. Against common presumptions, flag rugby is not a complicated sport to learn and many athletes pick it up after just a few sessions.
So, what is Flag Rugby? Flag Rugby is a variation of the more commonly known game of rugby, without the contact/tackle portion. To keep the same concept of Tackle Rugby, we provide the athletes with flags to be worn on their hips which will be pulled off to simulate a “tackle” has happened. Flag Rugby teaches all the same skills as Tackle Rugby, including evasion, passing, catching, and teamwork.
During the regular season (roughly from June-September), athletes are able to compete in regular training and youth tournaments with one of our 11 clubs.

Rugby Nova Scotia provincial academies are designed for our older age group (U16-U19) high performance athletes. Running in the fall and winter across three different locations, athletes are exposed to comprehensive training, skill development, and nutrition education. This aids in their progress as athletes move towards enhancing their performance in high school, university, provincial , and national play.
